Welcome to Sky Class!

Welcome to the Sky Class news page!

Here we'll share all the new content releases and give you a sneak peak of what we're working on next.

After working as both a teacher and a web developer myself, I wanted to create Sky Class to find digital solutions to some of the problems I faced as a teacher.

Making practice playful

The first subjects I wanted to approach were the "practise makes perfect" essentials like Spelling and Times Tables. These are often subjects which sadly have a squeezed slot in the timetable and parents fantastically step in to deliver a lot of the support. Yet teachers still find a lot of their time is taken up drawing up, marking spelling lists and chasing on homework. How do we deliver that individual teaching children need and inspire them to make progress- while saving ourselves time?

Our games Spellcaster and Divide and Conquer are being designed to:

  1. Embed learning techniques such as "Look, cover, write & check" within gameplay and in-game tips, so best practice can be shared with students and parents at home.
  2. Reward progress- encouraging students to be "in competition with themselves" and give all students an opportunity for appropriate challenge and success.
  3. Allow teachers to set achievable targets and spelling lists for individuals as well as the class as a whole.

What's next?

Coming next will be a new mode for Divide and Conquer which allows students multiple alternative methods to visualise and solve the division questions they find the most difficult.

I'll keep making improvements to the existing games and the Teacher Console in future releases. Work will also soon be starting on a brand new activity- Sky Class Story Mapping.

We'll share more details on this Blog very soon.
